THE BUILD WITH US INFORMATION TABLE
After Mass every weekend we have a special table for the Build With Us Team where you can buy tickets for events and get information about the campaign and some idea of the progress being made with the building plans.

We are now entering the final phase of the planning of the renovations and expect building to start in the next month or two.

A PRESENTATION ON THE PLANS WAS MADE IN CHURCH IN JUNE 2009 AND YOU CAN VIEW THE PRESENTATION HERE.
This is a revised version (Feb 2010) of the original presentation since most of the transition work has been completed in the mean time, as well as a number of related projects

THE 'BUILD WITH US' CAMPAIGN

The 'Build With Us' campaign, started in 2004, has been a very successful initiative to raise funds to enable structural changes to be made to the church buildings.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the 'Build With Us' campaign is to plan and organise events in support of fund raising, and in doing so, to create an atmosphere that builds and strengthens the community bond in soldiarity around the building project.

WHAT DOES 'BUILD WITH US' HOPE TO ACHIEVE?

  • The first phase of the building work involved internal alterations to the church itself and, with the help of 'Build With Us', was completed in 2 years.

  • The second phase of the building plan, is to create a suitable Pastoral Centre by renovating and altering the other buildings connected to the church. The area is planned to accommodate a day chapel, a suitable space for community gatherings, meeting rooms for Relgious Education programmes (we need to cater for about 200 children each Sunday), and facilities for the Parish Office and staff rooms in the future.
We hope to realise the funding of this initiative within a period of 10 years.

Please see the pictures of the renovation of the sancturay HERE .

WHY CONTRIBUTE TO A CHURCH THAT IS NOT OUR OWN?

The international character of our church means that most of our parishioners are with us for only a few years. Creating a sense of 'ownership' of a church in a foreign country is therefore difficult, as many parishioners will not see the result of their investments in the long term. However, please consider the fact that this parish has been around for over 55 years and has grown into one of the largest in the Diocese.

What we enjoy now is the result of what people have invested in our community over several generations, and we are committed to ensuring that future generations are able to worship and practise their faith in English.

Now that (after all this time!!) our community has finally found a permanent home we hope that one day you may return with your children and/or grandchildren to show them where you found a spiritual home during your time in The Hague. What we build today we hand on to the future, and it is an investment in the Universal Church.

Through 70 nationalities working together we may experience this much more than in our original home parishes.

Any direct contribution to 'Build With Us' goes into a separate bank account (see below) and donations to this account will only be used for this purpose.

RECENT PAST EVENTS

CHRISTMAS CAROL CONCERT RAISES €1600 FOR THE BUILDING FUND
The 3rd “CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS MUSIC FROM AROUND THE WORLD” on Saturday, 10th December, displayed the wonderful musical talents of our parish to the full. To Graham Bobby who led the evening; Cath Davis, Mikae Natsuyama and Vivien Khouw (Directors of the COS Kids Choir, Sunday Choir and Saturday Voices); Misaki Matsuuchi (on piano and organ); the Choir of the Indonesian Parish; Kyle Biebel and Kevin Murnane (Sound, Lighting and Staging); Janete Bloemen (Hospitality); Hans Bloemen (Logistics); Cheryl Carr and Carol Wooley (Christmas Market); the Ladies of the Craft Group and the Bake Sale contributors; and to everyone who has so generously supported us throughout the year, the Build With Us Group send their grateful thanks and good wishes for a joyous and peaceful Christmas and New Year. (Our thanks also to Kelly’s Expat Shopping for their generous and unsolicited donation of a Christmas Hamper for the raffle, and we wish them a successful opening of their new Wassenaar shop at Luifelbaan 52 in January).

KIDS’ DISCO : FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER
This was one of the most enjoyable evenings that the Build With Us group has organised. Fifty-seven children – and nearly as many parents! - had a wonderful time dancing to some great music by DJs Arthur (Faulkner) and Julian (Sutter) and feasting on hot dogs and pizzas. There was a competition for the best dancers: Flora Grenzer was the Best Girl Dancer and Juanito Connelly the Best Boy Dancer. The evening raised €443.- for the BWU Fund and, in reply to the many ‘Please do it again’ requests, the next event will be a Kids’ Fancy Dress Party, probably in March 2012. We will announce the exact date as soon as possible, but in the meantime wish to thank everyone for their enthusiastic support, particularly our wonderful DJs!

PHILIPPINE EVENING - A FULL HOUSE IN THE ATRIUM RAISES €1694
On Friday, 23rd September more than 80 people were treated to a culinary feast thanks to Ernie & Lina Pineda and Candy Pritchard. The Sri Lankan Ambassador, HE Mr. B. K. Athauda and Minister Frank Cimafranca of the Philippine Embassy and Mrs. Lu Cimafranca honoured us with their presence. To them, to all who attended and to Ernie & Lina (and Rico, Kevin, Vanessa, Marvic and Ning - their wonderful team) and Candy we send our grateful thanks, and also to all those who worked behind the scenes to make the evening such an outstanding success: Nick & Jilly Ulrich who provided the music, Gladys Hendriksz for dressing the tables so beautifully, Elly Derksen and Gladys who handled the sale of raffle tickets, and Kyle Biebel and Michele Cascianelli for their invaluable help behind the bar as well as with the set-up and clear-up.

WORLDWIDE QUIZ NIGHT
Andy Wright and Bryn Hunt – the two Quizmasters – made sure that the 50 participants had fun but had to work hard for it. The series of questions were wide-ranging and mind-boggling, but by general consensus everyone wants a repeat! The individual prize was won by our own Sally Williams, and a scratch team (Tracy Doherty, Dolores Thomson, Maureen Sullivan, Maggie Nijman and Annemarie Bellefroid) were the overall team winners. An amount of €802.- was raised after expenses, and to the two exceptional Quizmasters, Alison Wright who handled the bar and catering, Elly Derksen and Josephine van Veen for their invaluable help behind the scenes, and young Maria and Lucas Javier who did a marvellous job collecting papers, serving refreshments and charming everyone in the process, we say a huge “Thank You”.

AUCTION OF PROMISES – SUNDAY 12TH JUNE
Unfortunately we ran out of time last Sunday and some items/pledges were not put up for auction. Despite this, however, an amount of €2,050 was raised and to Arthur Faulkner (our magnificent auctioneer), to those who generously donated or pledged, and to the bidders go our grateful thanks and appreciation.

BOOK SALE
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped to make last weekend's (May 2011) book sale such a success! Contrary to what you might have heard, it was the work of many hands; those who donated books, those who bought them, Peter, Harry, Kyle and Hans (transport and muscle power), Mrs. Printer, the Flyer Squad, and the fine folk who staffed the sale, with special mentions to Beryl, Josephine and Alison who were there on all four days! That's dedication above and beyond the call of duty. You all deserve a medal! The result was €3333 raised for Parish charities.

CINCO DE MAYO TEX-MEX DINNER & DANCE : WHAT AN EVENING!
€1641.- was added to the Build With Us funds after a wonderful evening of great food, music and dancing on 6th May. The entire atrium and bar area was needed to accommodate 80 diners plus a band of helpers. To Peter Wood and Rick Chasse (who organised and catered for the entire event); Arthur Faulkner (who DJ’d); Lucy Faulkner, Josh and Jake Smart (who must be close to a world record for the number of margaritas they produced); Ivonet Belgrave (who once again got everyone to get up and Zoomba), and Edwin and Juliana Groenewold (who generously donated all the margarita ingredients) we say “Gracias a todos”!
