As a parish we are committed to trying to help the less fortunate in many ways but not just in foreign lands. There is real need closer to home and so we try to help out here as well by having food drives or collecting clothes but the main focus of our attention is on the two longstanding initiatives explained below.
Meals for the Homeless in The Hague
During Lent 2006 our special campaign was to support the work of Mariëtte Brekelmans and Klaas Koffeman, the Street Pastors of The Hague and their work with the homeless. Following this a new initiative was begun, linked with the St Egidio Group, to assist in helping to prepare and serve evening supper on two Fridays a month to the homeless. On the second and fourth Friday of each month a team prepares and serves a 3-course meal to their clients at Westeinde 101a. There is a short service prior to the meal. Special evenings are also created around St Nicholas and Christmas. Numbers coming for these meals have steadily increased and is now around 100 each time, a testament to all the effort that goes into the preparation and planning. If you would like to help out you are more then welcome. The Coordinator is Mira de Knoop

Missionaries of Charity's Soup Kitchen in Rotterdam
Since several years a group of volunteers also supports the daily soup kitchen of the Missionaries of Charity in Rotterdam. Every Tuesday morning at 9.30 a.m. they gather at the Church of Our Saviour to leave together for Rotterdam, where they help the sisters of Holy Mother Teresa with preparing the soup that gets distributed to the city's homeless later that day. The year 2016 was of course especially festive for this outreach group, as it witnessed the official proclamation of Mother Teresa's sainthood. Do you want to join this volunteer group? Please contact coordinator Ann McMahon through the parish office.
