The Feast is called ‘Candlemas’ as there is a procession with candles around the church. If you would like to have your candles blessed then please bring your own from home for the morning Mass. The COS Kids’ choir will join our Sunday Morning Choir. After Mass there will be an opportunity to receive the Blessing of St. Blaise against ailments of the throat. Sjaak for their wonderful support, prayers, visits and cards during my illness”. Everyone is welcome!! REGISTRATION INFORMATION The information is only as accurate as you allow it to be so please do let us know if you yourself are leaving or if you know of a family that has left. Equally, if you have just arrived then please do register – you can collect a Welcome Package from the Welcome Table at the back of the church after Masses. You can register there too if you just never quite got round to doing so! Thank you. KERKBALANS APPEAL We extend a sincere Thank You to those who responded to last week's appeal by joining the Planned Giving programme. If you've not yet returned your form, you can hand it in at the Welcome Table or post it to the Parish Office (Koningin Marialaan 2, 2595 GB Den Haag). For those who missed the Parish financial information with the Planned Giving application, extra copies are available at the Welcome Table or you can download a copy of the flyer here. ALTAR FLOWERS If you would like to sponsor the altar flowers for a special occasion please contact Cheryl Carr: e-mail Cheryl would also welcome flower arrangers or people willing to learn to make the arrangements once every 4 – 6 weeks. SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN FOR OUR ORGANIST MISAKI The I.N.D. sent Misaki a letter stating that she has to leave The Netherlands within less than three weeks from now. The reasons for the refusal of her permit to stay is that, after completing her studies, she has no real reason for being here. There is a possibility of appealing this decision on the grounds that her professional skills cannot be missed. We are trying that option by sending a letter with a signed petition. If you would like to keep our much appreciated organist here with us, then please put your signature on the list. Many Thanks!! Fr Sjaak
WORLD DAY FOR THE SICK 11TH FEBRUARY The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes was elevated by Pope John Paul 11 as the World Day for The Sick. It was at this sanctuary that the Anointing of The Sick was first made available to a large crowd and not just for people who were dying. The Sacrament was restored to its original meaning as ‘a Spiritual force to raise up the sick and restore them to health’. Before the renewal of the Sacrament it was often called ‘The Last Rites or Extreme Unction’ and thus considered a Sacrament for the dying. This practice limited the original scope of the healing force of the anointing. For parishioners who feel weak or those who feel they could benefit from the anointing because they face serious health issues there will be an opportunity to receive the Sacrament after the morning Mass on Sunday 12th February. PRESENTATION ON SLOVENIA TRIP After Mass on 12th February the Ambassador of Slovenia, H.E. Leon Marc, will give a presentation to promote our parish trip and give us an idea what to expect. Everyone is welcome You’ll find further details of the trip later in the bulletin. GIFT TO FLOOD VICTIMS IN THE PHILIPPINES The result from the Christmas Door Collection €3190.47 has been transferred to the Cagayan De Oro project to help the people who lost everything in the floods that hit the Philippines a few weeks ago. This tremendous sum was the parish’s spontaneous response to this natural disaster. Thank you all so much for your generosity and solidarity.
CO-CLEANING TEAM COORDINATOR NEEDEDOur cleaning team coordinator, Sue Bichsel would like to have someone to help her organise the church cleaning group. If you would be interested in helping please contact the parish office or give your name and details to the Welcome Table. PARISH RETREAT IN KONINGSHOEVE ABBEY TILBURG Nineteen parishioners will spend the weekend of 10th-12th February on retreat in the beautiful abbey of Koningshoeven near Tilburg. The theme of this weekend is “I seek your face, Oh Lord” and Fr Fons Eppink, a Mill Hill father, will be leading us in prayer and reflection. This is a special time away from our busy lives here in The Hague. It is a quiet time, a time to pray, to be together with our parish friends, to meditate to the Gregorian chanting of the monks and hopefully to rediscover God in our lives. Please pray for us on our spiritual journey. Helena Schröder (Organiser)
